Six Bidders Eyeing Providence’s WLNE

In Providence, struggling ABC-affiliate WLNE currently has six suitors.

Steve Doerr, the station’s VP and general manager, has confirmed to Broadcasting & Cable that the station has six legitimate bidders vying for its attention.

Last summer, Global Broadcasting, WLNE’s parent company, filed for receivership in Rhode Island Superior Court, giving the company some breathing room as it moved to sell the station.

New York media brokerage firm Cobb Corp. was hired in October to handle the sale.

“It’s a slow process but we’re getting there,” Doerr said.
