Sinclair Broadcast Group says it’s partnering with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer to “jointly create, develop, distribute and air the first ever 24 hour/7 day per week science fiction multi-channel network which will feature over 1,500 hours of premium MGM content.”
Operating what sounds like a shared services agreement, Sinclair will own the network while MGM will handle the programming and operations. Sinclair TV Group co-COO Steve Pruett will oversee the network for Sinclair.
The network is set to launch in late 2015 in 30 percent of the US. Viewers will see a mix of science fiction, fantasy and adventure title from MGM including “Stargate,” “Poltergeist,” and “Outer Limits.”
“We are excited to be partnering with MGM on the launch of the first ever science fiction multi-channel network,” said David Amy, COO of Sinclair Broadcast Group. “MGM has an extensive collection of science fiction films and television movies that appeal to a vast audience who will now be able to access that content through broadcast television.”
