Sibila Vargas Leaving WNBC

Sibila Vargas is leaving New York NBC-owned station WNBC.

“Sibila recently informed me that she needed to change her focus,” WNBC GM Eric Lerner said in a memo reported by the New York Daily News.

“My husband has been presented with an exciting business venture in the Carolinas,” she wrote on her Facebook page. “We are happy to support him and feel that this is a good fit as we also have family there, and have truly grown to love it.”

Vargas was moved off the 6 p.m. anchor desk in April and replaced by newcomer Natalie Pasquarella.

“This was a very difficult decision for me, but it is the right one for my family,” said Vargas. “It is not easy to leave my hometown of New York and the station I love and grew up watching.”

Vargas came to WNBC in 2013 from KCBS in Los Angeles.
