WXIA evening anchor Shiba Russell is leaving the Atlanta NBC afiliate after six years.

Atlanta Journal-Constitution media writer Rodney Ho said Russell will be moving back to the Northeast. Her daughter is attending Drexel University in Philadelphia this fall. She also told the AJC she’ll provide more details next week.

Russell came to WXIA from WNBC in New York as a morning anchor. She was named anchor for the 5 and 6 p.m. last May.

“We’re very sorry to see her leave but understand the familial reasons,” said WXIA general manager John Deushane.
