Scott Saxton is the new News Director for Wilmington, North Carolina’s WECT and sister station, WSFX, Raycom Media announced Wednesday. He will join the NBC and Fox affiliates, respectively, Sept. 28.
Saxton, an Ohio native, comes to Wilmington from another NBC affiliate, WSAZ, in Huntington, West Virginia. At WSAZ, he was the news director for operations in Huntington and Charleston. Before that, Saxton was the morning anchor at WXVT in Greenville, Miss.
The news director position at WECT–the first television station in Wilmington–has been vacant since Raeford Brown left in July.
Gary McNair, VP-GM of WECT, worked with Saxton in West Virginia at WSAZ many years ago. He said that Saxton came highly recommended “by a couple of people I know and respect. One is a general manager from Raycom who had hired [Saxton] at WSAZ when he was the news director there.”
