Two former KPIX-TV reporters have suffered a setback in their lawsuit that accused the CBS affiliate in San Francisco of age discrimination for firing them in 2008.
Despite one study suggesting that Channel 5 management used money-saving layoffs to dump some of its older employees, U.S. District Judge Marilyn Hall Patel reluctantly concluded that Bill Schechner and John Lobertini had failed to provide enough evidence to proceed with their claims of intentional discrimination.

Patel ruled, however, that the same expert’s study might show that the layoffs disproportionately affected older workers and couldn’t be justified by neutral business reasons. More…
