San Diego Anchor Hits the Road Before Retirement

By Kevin Eck

KGTV anchor Bill Griffith is retiring in February after 39 years at the San Diego ABC affiliate.

But, before he goes, he’s hitting the road in something the station is calling “Bill’s Excellent Adventure.” He’s also taking his replacement along for the ride.

Beginning Thursday, January 29, Griffith and new 10News This Morning and Midday anchor Jason Martinez will hit the road in 10News’ “Bill’s Excellent Adventure” RV to visit Griffith’s 20 most memorable San Diego stories. At each stop, he’ll take a look back at the events that have shaped his life over the years, and those of so many San Diegans.

Considered by many to be the “dean” of San Diego television, Griffith has been on the air at 10News since February 1976.

Griffith’s last day anchoring 10News This Morning and Midday will be Wednesday, February 25. Jason Martinez begins anchoring 10News This Morning and Midday full time the next day, with co-anchor Virginia Cha, Meteorologist Megan Parry with weather, and Natasha Zouves in the 10News Live Center.
