San Antonio Station Pays Off $2 Million in Medical Debt

KENS 5 is paying off $2 million in medical debt to help the people struggling in San Antonio.

According to the station, one in five families in the Texas town face a financial crisis due to a medical emergency.

So the Tegna station in San Antonio, Texas teamed up with RIP medical debt, a charitable organization that purchases medical debt from collectors at a deep discount. KENS wrote a check for $15,000 to buy more than $2 million in overdue debts.

The 287 people whose debt will be forgiven are getting a letter in the mail.
