San Antonio Anchor on Sinclair Promo: ‘We Should Never Have Been Put in This Position’

By Chris Ariens

Delaine Mathieu, co-anchor at Sinclair-owned WOAI in San Antonio, was one of the dozens of anchors who read that promo mandated by Sinclair corporate. On Monday, she posted on Facebook about the promo, and has been engaging with viewers since.

“The point of the video was to promote unbiased journalism. The good intention was there…the wording could’ve been different,” she responded to one viewer. “[I]t was a big deal and we should never have been put in this position,” she wrote to another.

Mathieu, who co-anchors News 4 San Antonio at 5, 6, and 6:30 p.m., has been with the station 13 years.

The Emmy award-winnig investigative reporter explained to another viewer on Facebook why she chose to speak up: “Everyone has a different way of handling things — I kinda like to just get it out there. Somewhat frowned upon by you know who — but what do I have to lose at this point????”
