San Antonio Anchor Leaves to Spend Time With Family

By Stephanie Tsoflias Siegel

A San Antonio icon is stepping down next month even though she just resigned with the station.

KENS anchor Sarah Lucero made the announcement this week. She intends to spend more time with her husband and four children.

“I came to the realization that I’d like to spend more time with my family,” she said. “I have two very young children now, and I have an opportunity to raise them a little differently from my older boys. I have no regrets about that, but I have a chance now to be home more.”

Lucero has been co-anchoring the CBS affiliate’s weeknight 6pm and 10pm shows or more than a decade. Prior to joining the station in 1998 she worked for WBBM, the CBS affiliate in Chicago and KWEX, the Univision affiliate in San Antonio.

“Sarah Lucero-Calhoon has been a vibrant part of the KENS family for 19+ years, and we are thankful for all she has contributed to our station and the community,” said Tom Cury, president and general manager of KENS 5.

Her last day on KENS 5 will be Nov. 22. You can watch her goodbye here.
