KCRA reporter Kay Recede said she is leaving the local news business after 11 years.
She announced the move on social media saying, it wasn’t an easy decision, but “it’s time for a new chapter.”
“I have never won an Emmy,” Recede wrote. “I’ve been a broadcast journalist for 11 years and I have not once been nominated for any of the stories I’ve covered. Maybe it’s because I’m not talented, or maybe it’s because I did not want to pay the fees involved when entering the annual competition, which can cost hundreds of dollars. What can I say? I like to pay for my basic needs.”
Recede started working at KCRA in 2021. She’s also worked as a reporter and weekend anchor for KTSM in El Paso, Texas and as a reporter for KIEM in Eureka, Calif.
“My work has always been about the families fighting for justice, the kids who found creative ways to help people in need—and the countless people who allowed me into their lives on their worst, sometimes their best days,” she added. “Some people have accused me of chasing stories for ratings. I couldn’t care less. Some people told me I’m in it for the glamour. It’s not so fabulous when you’re deep in mud while covering storms. I was in it, as trite as it may sound, because I genuinely cared about my community.”
