RTDNA Announces Regional Murrow Award Winners

Some of the big regional winners were KARE Minneapolis, which took home ten total awards in the large market category including Overall Excellence. WTVR in Richmond, Va., did the same in the small market category.

The awards added Excellence in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion as a new category for 2021. That category celebrated examples of bilingual reporting, contextual coverage of inequality and discrimination, and newsroom-convened community discussions.

“The regional RTDNA Edward R. Murrow Award recipients we announce today produced extraordinary journalism that brought clarity and context to 2020’s biggest news stories,” said RTDNA chairwoman Andrea Stahlman. “The winning work demonstrates dedication, determination and a commitment to the highest ethical standards enshrined in RTDNA’s Code of Ethics.”

Regional winners automatically move on to the national round of consideration, which also includes digital news organizations, as well as network and student competitors.

The Murrow Awards recognize local and national news stories that uphold the RTDNA Code of Ethics, demonstrate technical expertise and exemplify the importance and impact of journalism as a service to the community. Murrow Award winning work demonstrates the excellence that Edward R. Murrow made a standard for the broadcast news profession.
