Romi Bean Named Evening Sports Anchor at CBS Colorado

By Kevin Eck

Romi Bean has been named sports anchor for the KCNC news at 5, 6 and 10 p.m. newscasts.

Bean takes over for Michael Spencer, who will switch to news and co anchor alongside Karen Leigh on the main anchor desk for the Denver CBS owned station at the end of March 2023.

“Sports isn’t just a job for me. It’s my life. I pour my heart and soul into connecting with Colorado’s incredible sports fans,” said Bean. “Reporting on Colorado’s teams/athletes and sharing the sports stories that matter to our viewers is a responsibility I don’t take lightly. I’m thrilled about the opportunity to develop deeper connections with the community in this new role at CBS Colorado.”

Bean started at the station covering the Broncos on CBS Colorado Mornings on a part-time basis. She went full time in 2018 and most recently, she was named co-Colorado Sportscaster of the Year by the National Sports Media Association.

“We are so pleased to announce Romi’s new position as lead sports anchor,” said vice president and news director Kristine Strain. “CBS Colorado made a commitment to serve our communities with reporting that resonates with the audience and that’s why she is the perfect choice. Romi is the first female main sports anchor in the Denver television market, she knows Colorado sports and fans love her.”

“Most of the people you see anchoring sportscasts, covering sports stories and announcing sporting events are men,” CBS Colorado general manager Tim Wieland said. “Romi does this work at the highest level while also demonstrating the courage and commitment to break barriers, and the compassion and vision to support girls and young women interested in following her career path.”
