WHAM-TV, the ABC- and CW-affiliate in Rochester, New York, has named a new News Director. According to the Rochester Business Journal, WHAM announced on Tuesday that Matthew Malyn would be become the station’s News Director.

WHAM, owned by Newport Television, welcomes Malyn from KTVX in Salt Lake City, another Newport-owned station, where he has been serving as Assistant News Director. This is Malyn’s first job as News Director after making several stops as an Asst. ND, including Memphis, Las Vegas, and Detroit.

Malyn is replacing Steve Dawe, who was the station’s ND for over three years before moving on to Rochester’s PBS station WXXI. At WHAM, Malyn will oversee 6 1/2 daily hours of news on weekdays and one hour each weekend day.
