Rochester Newsman Breaks Guinness World Record, Unseating Houston Anchor

By Chris Ariens

WHAM anchor Don Alhart is a record holder.

The Guinness Book of World Records has recognized the Rochester, NY anchor as the longest-serving television news broadcaster, now in his 51st year.

Last year, Guinness gave the honor to KTRK anchor Dave Ward who, at the time of his award last June, had been with the station 49 years.

But after appeals from the Rochester station, Guinness corrected its error and gave the honor to Alhart. Both Alhart and Ward began anchoring for their stations in 1966; Ward in November, but Alhart 5 months earlier in June.

And who says 13 is an unlucky number? Both Alhart and Ward work for Channel 13.
