Virginia Meteorologist Says Medical Condition Is Taking Him Off The Air

By Stephanie Tsoflias Siegel

WVEC chief meteorologist, Jeff Lawson, says a medical issue will pull him off the air in the Virginia Beach-Norfolk market for a significant amount of time.

“To make a long story short: I will be having part of my tongue removed. The recovery time is significant, and correcting speech issues may take even longer depending on how much is removed,” he said in a lengthy Facebook post on Friday.

Lawson did not say how long he will be off air or elaborate on the condition but the Tegna-owned station posted a story on the station’s website wishing him a speedy recovery.

There is no elaboration on what kind of illness Lawson is battling. But he did say “I am in good hands with a Dr. who is highly regarded as both a surgeon and an oncologist.”
