Retired San Diego Investigative Reporter Unretires at NBC Station

J.W. August retired from San Diego ABC affiliate KGTV at the end of 2014. Despite the retirement party, though, he’s going back  to work, this time at NBC owned station KNSD.

“My apologies to my friends and colleagues who attended my retirement party, but I suspect most of you know I would have a hard time leaving the business cold turkey,” August wrote on his facebook page. “I couldn’t just stop doing what I love if there was a chance I could squeeze out a few more years of investigative journalism working in a new and exciting environment. It is a wonderful opportunity, too tempting to turn down.”

A KNSD spokesperson told TVSpy, August will join the station in a couple of weeks as a part-timer.

He said he had been watching NBC beef up the investigative units of its owned stations and was intrigued. “I spoke with the news director at KNSD, Greg Dawson, someone I have known and respected for many years,” wrote August. “I had heard the station might have interest in an old guy who still has some fire in his belly. (And not from chili dogs.) It sounded like a great vehicle to get back into investigative journalism, meet new people, work with other journalists I have known for years. I have to do it.”
