Reporter John Rupolo ‘No Longer Employed by WFTX’ After Arrest

By Merrill Knox

The Cape Coral Police Department arrested WFTX reporter John Rupolo Friday morning for violating a domestic violence order of protection.

“Mr. Rupolo is no longer employed by WFTX and we have no further comment regarding this issue,” the Southwest Florida Fox affiliate said in a statement.

47-year-old Rupolo, who joined WFTX in 2010, posted a $15,000 bail on the misdemeanor charge of contempt of court. He’s set to go back before a judge next month. His bio has been stripped from the station’s website.

>Update: Rupolo provided the following statement to TVSpy:

The charge is  false, unfounded, and not true.  This is a classic case of a girl I dated on and off  trying several times to chastise me through the legal system because of what I do for a living.  She was granted a temporary restraining order in October which was later dismissed by a Lee County judge.  What followed were excessive phone calls to my News Director calling for my firing. Then, a filing of yet another false temporary restraining order which she then violated me on under false allegations.  My attorney is handling this and I have no doubt my name will be cleared.
