Report: InfoMas to Shut Down Operations in Central Florida

By Stephanie Tsoflias Siegel

InfoMás, the Charter Communications owned station in Central Florida, is ceasing operations.

According to a story in the Orlando Sentinel, this as News 13, the English sister station, marks its 20 year anniversary.

“This realignment reflects research and feedback from the community that most of our Spanish-speaking viewers in Tampa and Orlando are already watching our news in English.”

InfoMás launched in 2011. It merged Bay News 9 en Español and Central Florida News 13 en Español.

“We are allocating additional resources to increase reporting and coverage of issues of interest to the Hispanic community on our flagship news stations in Florida, Bay News 9 and News 13,” the Charter spokeswoman told the paper.

Charter did not give specific numbers on what the channel’s closing means to staff. Some staffers will be absorbed by News 13 or Bay News 9.
