Raycom Station Shifts Sports To Digital Platform

The Raycom duopoly in Hawaii, KHNL-KGMB, says it’s dropping sports in newscasts and ramping up coverage on digital platforms.

According to a story in West Hawaii Today, Hawaii News Now’s general manager Rick Blangiardi, said “the station instead will focus on expanding its sports coverage on digital platforms, such as its website and social media.”

Blangiardi added, “we’re not backing off sports. We’re going to deliver sports differently in what makes more sense.”

The report says sports reporter-anchor, Taryn Hatcher, will have a big role in the digital projects.

The station is also planning to hire producers to also work on the digital side.
