Randy Meier Returns to Minneapolis as KMSP Anchor

By Merrill Knox

Randy Meier is headed back to Minneapolis-St. Paul.

Meier, who spent a majority of his career as an anchor at Minneapolis ABC affiliate KSTP, will join the Fox owned-and-operated KMSP on September 26. His primary role will be anchor of the 10 p.m. newscast, which he will do solo, and he will also contribute to the 5 p.m. broadcast as an anchor and reporter.

Meier left KSTP in 2003 when the station declined to renew his contract after 13 years. “In a perfect world, I’d love to find another great television job in the Twin Cities,” he told the Minneapolis Star-Tribune at the time. “This is where our home is; this is where my kids were raised and where they go to school.”

Meier was hired by MSNBC in 2004. He served as a dayside anchor for three years — although his family stayed on the east coast for only a few months before moving back to Minneapolis — before MSNBC cut him loose in 2007. Last winter, he was a fill-in anchor on WCBS in New York for a week.

Meier replaces Marni Hughes, who left the KMSP in July.
