Gary Nielsen, president and general manager of KVOA-TV Channel 4, plans to retire at the end of the year, station owner Cordillera Communications said.
Nielsen joined Cordillera as president and general manager when the company acquired the Lexington, Ky., NBC affiliate, WLEX-TV, in 1999. He moved to KVOA, also a Cordillera NBC affiliate, in 2002.

Both stations have been very successful in revenue, ratings, award recognition and public service, Cordillera said, crediting Nielsen with adding news coverage and guiding the station through its digital and high-definition transition. More…
