Power Goes Out on Florida Reporter in Middle of Hurricane Idalia Live Shot

By Kevin Eck

Scripps reporter Forrest Saunders had the ultimate show don’t tell moment while reporting on the dangers of Hurricane Idalia.

Saunders, who is the Florida State Capitol Reporter for Scripps, was out in the storm reporting for WTXL in Tallahassee when the power went out in the middle of his live shot.

“We just lost power! You just saw the power go out,” Saunders said in a video posted the station’s website.

Idalia was downgraded from Category 3 when it made landfall this morning. At 11 a.m. ET, the storm was about 15 miles south-southeast of Valdosta, Georgia. Idalia has maximum sustained winds of 90 miles per hour and is moving to the north-northeast at 20 miles per hour.
