Sarah Palin and Oprah Winfrey will soon be fellow cable-television stars. Palin is launching “Sarah Palin’s Alaska” on TLC, and Winfrey is turning Discovery Health into OWN: the Oprah Winfrey Network.

But the pair share something beyond extending their brands to Discovery channels.

Both are masters of “infotainment,” where the footing can be tricky. And each has sought to blend partisan politics and celebrity in a mirror image of the other.
