Orlando Station Hires New Sports Anchor, Despite Lack of Live Sports

The lack of live sports isn’t stopping stations from hiring sports talent, and that’s a good thing for broadcasters.

The latest local hire is at WESH, the NBC affiliate in Orlando, Fla.

Kendra Douglas will join the station’s sports team as a reporter and anchor.

“We are thrilled that Kendra will be a member of the WESH 2 Sports Team. She is a very talented sports journalist and will be an incredible addition to our newsroom,” said WESH-CW18 news director Kirsten Wolff. “She has a passion for sports reporting, telling great stories on TV and posting on digital.”

She’s moving to Orlando from Wichita, Kan., where she worked as a sports anchor and reporter for the last two years.

“I’m thrilled to be a part of the WESH 2 Sports Team and excited to continue covering the AAC, the University of Central Florida and sports throughout the state,” said Douglas in a statement. “I am looking forward to being a part of the Central Florida sports community.”

It’s unclear when Douglas will start at the station.
