KWTV, the CBS station in Oklahoma City, has fired one of its own for social media comments made amid last week’s Capitol riots that left five people dead.
Alan Broerse, who had been a storm-chaser for the station, made remarks on social media that seemed to suggest support of violence against members of Congress.
FTVLive got a screenshot of the comments, in which Broerse wrote “I want several in congress… in prison” on the Facebook page of Canadian County Sheriff Chris West, who traveled to Washington D.C. last week to attend pro-Trump crowds protesting the presidential election results. After West’s account responded and suggested that “worse” could happen to members of Congress, Broerse suggested in a follow-up comment: “Bullets are .94 cents for 30.06.”
The station said Friday that he had been terminated. Some station insiders told FTVLive they believe Broerse also attended the rally in Washington, D.C., but that has not been confirmed.
“Statements made by Alan Broerse recently on social media are not acceptable, News 9 does not condone language like that and he does not speak for NEWS9,” the station said in a statement. “Alan no longer works for our station.”
