NY1 Hires New Vice President of Content

NY1 has hired a Tegna executive to oversee the New York station’s content development.

Helen Swenson, who is a native New Yorker, will join the Spectrum owned station as the vice president of content.

She will oversee the station’s content development, programming and news efforts including strategic planning and creation.

“Helen is a dynamic and talented executive with deep industry experience leading linear and digital content in broadcast and local news,” said Dan Ronayne, svp of Spectrum News Northeast. “Her leadership and proven success of developing news programming, innovative content, creating growth and managing the day-to-day operations will be invaluable as we continue to build upon NY1’s successes.”

Swenson mostly recently served as a program developer and executive producer for Tegna where she launched the nationally distributed show Sister Circle. Prior to joining Tegna, she was the president and general manager of WIAT in Birmingham, Ala. She’s also spent time in leadership roles at the Weather Channel where she launched a number of shows.

She relocates to start her new role Feb. 10.
