Nichole Szemerei, formerly a traffic reporter for “Tucson Today” on NBC affiliate KVOA, has been promoted to anchor. Szemerei will join co-anchor John Overall weekday mornings from 5:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m.
Szemerei joined KVOA in December 2011. She previously worked at WCIA, the CBS affiliate in Champaign, Ill.

“Nichole is a natural to move into the anchor chair on Tucson Today,” Cathie Batbie, KVOA news director, said in a statement. “She’s been a dynamic member of our morning team and is an excellent communicator, a proven journalist and an Arizona native.”
Szemerei begins her new position next week.
