Nexstar’s Buffalo Station Puts Sports Back into 6 PM Newscast

The new GM at Nexstar’s Buffalo CBS affiliate WIVB is putting the station back the way it was after the previous management made some changes.

We reported a few days ago that new GM Dominic Mancuso was hiring for positions left empty by former GM Rene LaSpina and news director Scott Levy. Now we find out from The Buffalo News Mancuso is reinstating the sportscast in the 6 p.m. news.

“Buffalo is a strong sports market with two pro franchises,” Mancuso told the Buffalo News. “While we reported sports in the 6, Lisa [Polster] and I felt the 6 p.m. show should have a formal sports segment.” From the Buffalo News:

At the time of the May 2015 decision to dump the 6 p.m. sportscast, Levy said: “When looking closely at the landscape of local sports, Western New York viewers have access to sports news throughout the day on their computers, mobile devices and social media. If it’s an important sports story during the day, WNY viewers will not have to wait until 6:20 p.m. to see it on their TV.”

Mancuso was named GM in February. Levy moved to Kansas City in August to be the news director at Meredith’s KCTV.
