News Outlets Take Stands on Koran Burning Coverage

As Gainesville pastor Terry Jones asserted his plans to burn a pile of Korans, the news media swarmed around the story as its members questioned the amount and type of coverage Jones should require.

Fox News came forward with an early declaration that they would not cover the burning if Jones were to move ahead with it. “We do not cover every flag burning that happens in this country. We don’t run every hostage tape,” Michael Clemente, Fox News SVP, told The Baltimore Sun.

Fox News was the only major TV news organization to take such a stand. According to TVNewser, CBS, ABC, NBC, and CNN all planned to cover the event. And even though Fox News announced that it wouldn’t cover the actual burning, Jones was a prominent topic during the network’s regular news cycle.

Now, as Jones has officially suspended the Koran burning event, NBC and ABC are locked in a war of words over ABC’s alleged plans to fly Jones to New York for an interview. More…
