New York’s WPIX Adds Another Morning News Hour

By Stephanie Tsoflias Siegel

Just a month after Scripps announced it would sell WPIX back to Nexstar, the station is changing its morning format.

The New York City station said it will add an hour to its morning show, which currently ends at 10 a.m.

The PIX11 Morning News will now air from 4:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. In January, the station launched the 9 a.m. hour and named Betty Nguyen and Dan Mannarino anchors. It also added two features reporters: Marysol Castro and Ben Aaron.

They’ll now anchor three hours of news, and John Muller and Vanessa Freeman will head up the 4:30-7 a.m. hours, as they have since last month.

“When we launched the 9 a.m. hour we immediately discovered the strong connection our team members had with each other and with our very loyal PIX11 Morning News viewers,” said Vickie Burns, vp of news and content at PIX11. “That connection only deepened over the past few months as we’ve worked to help our audience manage through these unprecedented times. We’re looking forward to providing important information as well as some fun and inspiration with the only local broadcast news in the tri-state area at 10 a.m.”

The new broadcast is set to start Sept. 14.
