New York Sports Anchor Moving to Cleveland for News

By Kevin Eck

WABC sports anchor Rob Powers is taking a job at Cleveland ABC affiliate WEWS to be the late news anchor.

“What do you say about a guy who’s been a great team player on the air and off?” news director Camille Edwards told staffers in an email Friday. “What do you say about a guy whose love of sports radiates the screen? What do you say about a guy whose smile lights up a room, stadium, or arena? To Rob Powers we say, thank you for seven wonderful years at Eyewitness News. We say, we understand that your love of family and the desire to be closer to them is why you’re leaving us and heading home to Cleveland.”

He joined the New York ABC-owned station in 2009 and was named lead sports anchor in 2011. Before coming to WABC, he was sports director at WTVG in Toledo, Ohio.
