Diaz_WNYWTVSpy has confirmed with a FOX spokesperson that WNYW, the New York FOX owned station, has eliminated its consumer investigative unit.

The unit, otherwise known as “Shame Shame Shame,” headed by investigative reporter Arnold Diaz, along three producers and a photographer were told their last day was today.

Lew Leone, vice president and GM of WNYW said in a statement, “Arnold has uncovered consumer injustice in New York for decades. We want to thank him for his many contributions to FOX 5.”

Sources tell TVSpy the layoffs are part of a reorganization rather than a cost cutting move with plans to hire in the near future. The same sources also tell TVSpy investigative reports will no longer come just from specialized units at the station.

Diaz had worked at WNYW since March 2006. From 1995 to 2003, he worked for ABC’s 20/20. From 1973 until 1995 he was an investigative reporter for WCBS in New York.
