New WNBC Anchor Shiba Russell on Sue Simmons: ‘She Paved the Way’

By Andrew Gauthier

As Shiba Russell joins WNBC as a weekend anchor and reporter, many are wondering if she is also joining the station as legendary anchor Sue Simmons’ heir apparent.

Russell dismissed this speculation in a recent interview with TVSpy sister site FishbowlNY, while also making it clear that she has big plans for her career.

“I am a big fan of Sue, and I have been for a really long time,” Russell told FishbowlNY. “She is a New York legend, a great journalist, [and] she paved the way for African-American female anchors like me.”
