“That’s when a lightbulb went off in my head,” said Lopez. “And I thought how cool would it be if I could actually get the President of the United States to send my Dad a “get well” message. I wanted to make him smile in a way that I believed nothing else could.”

Lopez reached out to a friend who worked in the White House and asked her if the president would reach out to his father.

His father died on June 15. In a letter dated June 23, the Lopez family received a letter from President Obama.

“My wonderful father always instilled in me that anything is possible if you work hard and truly believe in it,” said Lopez. “This letter clearly echoes that vivid truth! Anything can really happen, like getting a letter from the President of the United States of America for someone I dearly love!”
