New Orleans Anchor Told Her Africa Pendant Is ‘Un-American’

By Kevin Eck

WWL anchor Charisse Gibson wore a pendant recently that caught a viewer’s eye, so much so they felt the need to comment on it over email.

Instead of complimenting Gibson, the viewer sent a racist email questioning her patriotism. The anchor for the New Orleans CBS affiliate shared a screen shot of the email over social media.

“If you persist in wearing a medallion of Africa, please know that I will change channels,” read the email. “You are an American first and should be proud of that.”

On twitter, Gibson replied with a one word answer. “Nah.”

Gibson started her career at WWL as a desk assistant. She worked in Mississippi, Shreveport, La., and Cincinnati, before coming back to WWL as an anchor.
