New Hampshire’s WBIN Teams Up With Bloomberg TV For GOP Presidential Debate

WBIN, an independent station serving Boston and New Hampshire, is teaming up with Bloomberg TV and the Washington Post to present a Republican presidential debate focused on the economy.

The debate, slated for October 11, will air on both WBIN and Bloomberg TV. It will be moderated by Charlie Rose, who will ask candidates to detail their job-creation proposals while seated at a round table, surrounded by audience members at Dartmouth College.

WBIN, formerly known as MyNetworkTV affiliate WMYZ, was purchased earlier this year by Carlisle One Media. The station, which has not produced a local newscast since 2009, added a 10 p.m. newscast — anchored by Amanda Decker and Kyle Dennis — to their programming lineup last week.

Carlisle One Media president Bill Binnie told the Portsmouth Herald that his long-term goal is to prepare WBIN to be a competitor of WMUR, the only major television station in the Manchester, NH market, by the 2016 election. “We are committed to the political process, but as I’ve learned with other businesses I’ve been involved with, it takes time,” Binnie said in June.

Republican Presidential candidates participating in the debate include Michele Bachmann, Herman Cain, Newt Gingrich, Jon Huntsman, Ron Paul, Rick Perry, Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum.
