The Radio Television Digital News Association and the Society of Professional Journalists will be joined by the Native American Journalists Association at next year’s Excellence in Journalism Conference in New Orleans.

“The Native American Journalists Association is excited to join SPJ and RTDNA for a national conference,” said Rebecca Landsberry, NAJA interim executive director. “Our members, who represent tribal newsrooms, freelancers and media professionals covering Indian Country and their communities, are thrilled to partner with SPJ and RTDNA. They are looking forward to the dynamic programming they’ve come to expect from NAJA along with fresh networking opportunities between these three well-respected journalism organizations at EIJ16.”

The partnership between the smaller NAJA and the larger RTDNA and SPJ was approved in the summer. The conference is in New Orleans from September 18-20, 2016. NAJA “serves and empowers Native journalists through programs and actions designed to enrich journalism and promote Native cultures.”

“We couldn’t be more excited that NAJA is joining EIJ in New Orleans,” said Mike Cavender, executive director of RTDNA. “People who have attended EIJ in years where we have partnered with NAHJ tell us all the time how much they enjoy the convention and the energy they feel when the three groups attend. I’m confident attendees will find the same excitement from this great partnership with NAJA. We look forward to making EIJ16 another great destination for all journalists.”

The SPJ and the RTDNA have teamed up to host the annual Excellence in Journalism conferences since 2011.
