Morning Anchor Swap at WNWO

By Aneya Fernando

dGir4EulToledo NBC affiliate WNWO is changing up its morning anchor lineup.

Beginning today, morning reporter and “NBC 24 Midday” anchor/producer Stefanie Martinez will replace Angi Gonzalez, who is being demoted to the role of multimedia journalist at the station.

“It’s all about putting the right people in the right place to make the most of our staff and to put the best newscast on the air,” WNWO news director Nicole Hahn told The Toledo Blade.

Martinez has been with WNWO since October. She previously worked at WFXL, the FOX affiliate in Albany, Ga.

Gonzalez has been with the station for three years, starting as evening anchor, before transitioning to mornings. She was apparently caught off guard with the news that she would be leaving her position, as indicated by her Facebook post on Friday:

“To all my Toledo area fans — I am sorry to say I will no longer be part of your mornings. I’m afraid I can’t say more than that but I wanted you to be aware of why I’d no longer be behind the anchor desk. I am still trying to digest the news myself — but thank you ahead of time for your support. Stay tuned for more in the weeks to come.”
