KARE 11 anchor Julie Nelson thought she just had a bad cold.
But the main anchor of the Twin Cities station, who co-anchors the news at 5, 6, and 10 p.m. on weeknights, tested positive for Covid-19. She will now be off the air until she recovers.
“Hello friends. I just wanted to share that I tested positive for Covid today,” the Minneapolis journalist said on Facebook this week. “What I thought was a nasty cold turned out to be the nasty virus. I am not feeling great, but grateful that, so far, the symptoms aren’t worse. I just wanted you to know why you won’t be seeing [me] on air for awhile. Good book and/or binge watch recommendations appreciated.”
Nelson has been at KARE since 2003. Since the pandemic hit, Nelseon has been switching off anchoring duties with co-anchor Randy Shaver so that only one anchor is in the studio at a time. She has also been anchoring remotely from her living room.
