Mike Cherry to Join KCRA in Sacramento

Mike Cherry is joining Hearst’s Sacramento, Calif. NBC and MyTV affiliate KCRA as a morning anchor.

This is a move within Hearst Television for Cherry, who will will be part of the KCRA morning news from 4 to 7 a.m. with Deirdre Fitzpatrick, Teo Torres, Tamara Berg and Melanie Hunter and will anchor alongside Brandi Cummings for KCRA 3 News on My58 at 7 and 8 a.m.

“We’re thrilled to Welcome Mike Cherry to the KCRA 3-My58 Family,” said KCRA and My58 president and general manager Ariel Roblin. “His passion and record of excellence in journalism will be a great contribution of service to our community.”

Cherry comes from Hearst-owned Manchester, N.H. station WMUR. He started his career at KGMB in Honolulu after graduating from the University of Hawaii at Manoa where he worked as a video editor, photographer and sports reporter. He’s also worked at KITV in Honolulu.

“Mike has a fantastic track record of inspiring the team around him and we know that will make him a great fit for our station,” said KCRA news director Derek Schnell. “Mike is also passionate about getting out into the community and making connections, which will translate into some excellent stories that we can share with our audience.”
