WFAA reporter Mike Castelucci is leaving Dallas ABC affiliate WFAA.

Dallas TV Writer Ed Bark first reported the news.

Castelucci told TVSpy he’s accepted an appointment with Michigan State University as their Professor of Practice and hopes to continue his collaborations with TEGNA and WFAA.

“I’m really thrilled that Michigan State has noticed the innovation in my work and invited me to take a leadership position as they produce the industry’s next generation of storytellers,” said Castellucci.

Castelucci credits the show he shot entirely on his iPhone, called Phoning it In, with leading him down this new path.

“In fact when I was asked to speak at MojoCon in Dublin Ireland last month, I literally couldn’t believe how many journalists knew me and my work,” he said. “Professionals from Germany to India to South Africa said they’ve circulated the work and used me as a case study.”

Castelucci started at WFAA the first time in 2003 and left in 2008 to work at KUSI in San Diego. He came back to WFAA in 2013. He’s also worked at KCBS in Los Angeles.
