One anchor in Grand Rapids, Mich., is taking virtual drum lessons to fight off the boredom at home.
Morning anchor Mike Avery did a live remote during the morning show with his drum set on Tuesday. He told viewers the time at home as allowed him to do something he loved as a kid.
“When I was young, I remember getting a drum set for Christmas. I could not have been happier with Santa on that day. Unfortunately, a few hours into my drumming experience, I put a hole in the snare drum from hitting it so hard,” he said.
But now, years later, Avery said he started taking lessons locally, until the coronavirus hit. So recently, to occupy himself during the downtime, he started taking remote lessons.
“Then Governor Whitmer put the ‘Stay Home, Stay Safe’ executive order in place, and once again the drums were put on hold. As a result, my instructor Evan decided to start giving lessons online. He sent me some videos to keep me going while we all practice social distancing,” said Avery.
Avery showed off some of his skills this morning as many anchors try to get creative working from home. You can watch the video below.
