Death is breathing some new life into business at nearly three dozen TV stations.

Having successfully launched a local online and on-air obituary service at WNEM Flint-Saginaw-Bay City, Mich., last fall, Meredith Local Media is introducing it at its 11 other stations and syndicating it to stations owned by others.

So far, it has signed up 20 non-Meredith stations and is talking to 15 more.

“Our service is more efficient and more cost effective than running obituaries in newspapers,” says Paul Karpowicz, president of Meredith’s Local Media Group. More…
