Melissa Voetsch on Indefinite Leave from WTOL Due to Heart Condition

By Merrill Knox

Morning anchor Melissa Voetsch is on indefinite medical leave from Toledo’s WTOL after being diagnosed with myocarditis, a condition that severely lowers functionality of the heart.

Voetsch was getting ready for work one morning in late October when she began experiencing trouble breathing, according to the station. Her condition may have developed after battling pneumonia this summer.

“As soon as she’s better and can come back, we’ll welcome her with open arms,” WTOL news director C.J. Hoyt told the Toledo Blade. “We can’t wait to see her. [But] it all depends on how she responds to treatment. Our first priority is making sure she gets better.”

Voetsch co-anchors the morning show and the 9 a.m. newscast with Jonathan Walsh. In her absence, Walsh is anchoring the morning show solo, and traffic reporter Tina Shaerban is filling in as the 9 a.m. co-anchor.
