Matt Parcell is stepping into the news director role at Orlando ABC-affiliate WFTV, the station announced today.

Parcell, who has been WFTV’s managing editor for four years, takes over for his mentor, Bob Jordan, who becomes news director at KIRO in Seattle this month.

“It’s not often you get handed the keys to a high performance machine such as the Eyewitness News newsroom,”  Parcell said in a statement. “We have a fantastic team of dedicated journalists and I couldn’t be more proud or more humbled to be entrusted to lead this operation.”

Parcell joined WFTV in 1997. Before becoming managing editor, he managed the station’s Special Projects department, which includes WFTV’s investigative and consumer reporting units.

In a statement announcing the promotion, general manager Shawn Bartelt called Parcell a “dynamic leader” and “an integral part of the incredible team that produces eight hours of news each day under the Eyewitness news brand.”

Bartelt told TVSpy that WFTV is now interviewing for a managing editor.
