WDIV vp and gm Marla Drutz is retiring from the Detroit NBC affiliate after nearly four decades in local TV.
“You know when it’s time to move on to something else, and this allows time for a succession plan,” Drutz told the Detroit Free Press. “I’ve seen too many sudden transitions, and I’d rather not see that here.”
Drutz worked at the E.W. Scripps Company and at WXYZ in Detroit for 20 years before joining WDIV in 2008. She started her career as a research analyst at WJW in Cleveland, Ohio before working as the marketing director at WJBK in Detroit.
“I’ve loved every day of my years at WDIV and that’s why this is a tough decision. However, I’ve worked in local television for 35-plus years and I know it’s time for me to write a fresh and different chapter,” said Drutz. “I am ready for a new adventure that includes travel and a warmer winter climate. This will also give me a chance to spread my wings within the volunteer community.”
