At the time, we reported Longnecker, who is a reporter for the NBC affiliate, said Shelton grabbed for her wallet then started punching her when she was getting out of her car. He then tried to push her back into the vehicle.

“Living through this attack, and then the trial, has given me a new outlook on the victims I cover,” wrote Longnecker. “From being repeatedly punched in the face to feeling like I was punched in the gut when I had my motivations questioned on the stand, it was both an excruciating and eye opening experience. I am so thankful for the jurors and their verdict, I know the outcome for crime victims in this city is not always that good.”

Shelton is set to be sentenced on Tuesday, February 21.
