Man Climbs KTLA Tower, Comes Down After Lady Recognizes Him From Church, Offers to Help

A standoff involving a man who climbed the KTLA tower yesterday came to a peaceful ending after a woman who recognized the tower climber from church helped talk him down.

Police shut down part of Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood after the man, known only as Chris, started his ascent at 4:45 p.m. and stayed up there for about three hours.

The Fire Department was on scene in case he decided to jump.

Anita McMillan-Murphy saw the drama on TV and recognized Chris from her church. She went to the scene and got Chris to come down came down after offering to help him out.

“He’s a good man, he’s just got some problems,” said McMillan-Murphy.

KTLA said it’s not clear why the man climbed the The 160 foot tower. He was not arrested and no charges were expected to be filed.
