WCSH anchor Pat Callaghan told viewers he made a “huge error” by incorrectly attributing a quote that blasted the appointment of Ben Carson as Housing and Urban Development secretary to his state’s Republican Senator.
On Monday, Callaghan tweeted out that Maine Republican Senator Susan Collins said “Maine & the country deserve better” in response to Carson’s appointment. The quote actually came from Democrat Congresswoman Chellie Pingree.
Callaghan figured it out, deleted the tweet and apologized.
BREAKING: I made a huge error in saying @SenatorCollins opposes Carson as HUD sec. That was @chelliepingree quote. My apologies to all.

Collins accepted the apology.

Pingree was also gracious about the error.
